10 Movies from the '80s to Laugh Your Pants Off to

1. Just One of the Guys (1985)

movie just one of the guys

From IMDb: Terry believes her teachers don't take her serious, just because she's a pretty girl. When she fails to win a journalism contest, she decides to switch schools - and gender. She plays her role well and is accepted as one of the guys. However then she meets Rick... and likes him.

If you've seen and enjoyed She's The Man, a modern film many critics compare this film to, then you can perhaps get a grip on why I love this film so much. It's quirky, it's cheesy (but hey it was the '80s), and it will probably never be on any "the best movie ever" list, but it's cute and fun and a great romantic comedy no matter the decade.

2. Airplane! (1980)

The clip I've included makes me chuckle every time I see it. That's one way to get through the airport!

From IMDb: Still craving for the love of his life, Ted Striker follows Elaine onto the flight that she is working on as a member of the cabin crew. Elaine doesn't want to be with Ted anymore, but when the crew and passengers fall ill from food poisoning, all eyes are on Ted.

This is one of the first parody films I remember watching. I think Leslie Nielsen's "spoof" films are what everyone truly loved him for ;)

Looking for just the right one-liner? Chances are, it's probably in the movie Airplane! or at least in the sequel.

3. Caddyshack (1980)

From IMDb: An exclusive golf course has to deal with a brash new member and a destructive dancing gopher.

Some truly unforgettable actors make appearances in this film: Chevy Chase, Rodney Dangerfield, and of course, Billy Murray.

I loved Chevy Chase's performance in Caddyshack--especially the noise he makes as he's golfing (watch above).
It's an inside joke with me and my dad to make that noise randomly. (My mom hates it.)

There's also a very memorable pool scene that gets parodied A LOT......

4. Good Morning, Vietnam (1987)

robin williams peace good morning vietnam

From IMDb: An unorthodox and irreverent DJ begins to shake up things when he is assigned to the US Armed Services Radio station in Vietnam.

The actor who stars in this funny but very meaningful film is none other than Robin Williams. Need I say more?
It's also loosely based off of real events. I love those types of movies.

Good music, good humor, good acting = good film!

5. Throw Momma From the Train (1987)

throw momma from the train movie

From IMDb: A bitter ex-husband. A put upon momma's boy. Both want their respective spouse and mother dead, but who will pull it off?

I don't own a lot of movies. I own this movie. That should tell you something right off the bat.

If you've seen The Goonies, and you know who the real villainous woman from that movie is, then you will recognize her in this black comedy. She is a favorite character of mine for reasons I just can't explain other than the situation around her makes her funny.

6.  Overboard (1987)

From IMDb: A cruel but beautiful heiress screws over a hired carpenter, who later is the first one to find her when she gets amnesia. Looking for a little revenge he convinces her that she's his wife.

This is, without a doubt, not even one of my favorite romantic comedies from the '80s, but from all-time.
The pair Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russell together is charming and amps up things in the romance department considering they were a real couple then and still are.

7. See No Evil, Hear No Evil (1989)

see no evil hear no evil comedy movie

From IMDb: Dave is deaf, and Wally is blind. They witness a murder, but it was Dave who was looking at her, and Wally who was listening.

What a laugh-out-loud comedy. The situations these guys (Richard Pryor and Gene Wilder) get themselves into will have everyone watching cracking up.

8. Three Amigos

From IMDb: Three unemployed actors accept an invitation to a Mexican village to replay their bandit fighter roles, unaware that it is the real thing.

Really great casting with this one. If you haven't seen it before, watch it just to see Chevy Chase in a sombrero.

9. Spies Like Us (1985)

spies like us comedy movie

From IMDb: Two bumbling government employees think they are U.S. spies, only to discover that they are actually decoys for Nuclear War.

Okay, so by now you're probably thinking that either Chevy Chase was either in a lot of '80s comedies or that he's grabbed me personally by the funny bone. The answer is definitely both.

But I can't leave out Dan Aykroyd, who with Chevy Chase, just leaves me in hysterics.

Aside from the comedy, the movie is set at an adventurous pace with plenty of interesting antics going on around the pair.

10. Dirty Rotten Scoundrels (1988)

From IMDb: Two con men try to settle their rivalry by betting on who can swindle a young American heiress out of $50.000 first.

Most people I talk to only think of Michael Caine's humor movie path as being part of the Austin Powers series.

They obviously have never heard of this film. And what a wonderful film it is.

So there you have it folks! Hope you find a new movie to love and to laugh to.
